Abstract

Sporotrichosis is a contagious subcutaneous mycosis caused by dimorphic fungi of the Sporothrix schenckii complex, which affects several domestic animals, including man, with Sporothrix brasiliensis being the main species responsible for epizootics in different Brazilian states. In the canine species, sporotrichosis is still considered uncommon. Thus, the present work aims to report a case of canine sporotrichosis, in a two-year-old Rottweiler breed, with ulcerated lesions on the thorax and nasal bridge, in addition to nodular lesions on the thorax. The diagnosis was confirmed by histopathological examination with special staining (PAS) and the recommended treatment was itraconazole at a dose of 5 mg/kg, once a day, for three months, with complete remission of the lesions.
