Abstract

Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is the most common complication resulting from diabetes mellitus, where about 15% of animals develop this condition. It is characterized by the biochemical triad whit persistent hyperglycemia, metabolic acidosis and ketosis, changes that can lead to the patient's death due to the various metabolic changes generated, because of this it is considered a medical emergency. It affects dogs from 5 to 12 years of age, being more common in females. The objective was to report two cases of DKA, treated at the Clinic School Veterinary, from the State University of the Midwest and carry out an analysis of both.
