Abstract

Recreational drug poisonings such as Cannabis sativa, popularly known as marijuana, are increasingly present in veterinary care clinics. The dog has been the most affected animal species. Cannabis sativa contains over 500 different clinical compounds and over 80 known cannabinoids; of these, delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the most psychoactive and is responsible for most symptoms of intoxication. Clinical signs of marijuana poisoning in dogs appear 30-60 minutes after exposure, requiring the action of the veterinarian.
