Abstract

Human beings are classified as omnivores, that is, they can acquire proteins from plants and animals and their derivatives. A long time ago when primitive humans had not developed agricultural techniques, they needed to hunt animals and look for fruits in the forest, with time they developed the necessary techniques to grow plants and raise animals. From the moment they started raising animals, they opened up a range of options for meat consumption, such as beef, pork and poultry. Thus, this work aimed to characterize meat consumption in the municipality of Maués, Amazonas, during the year 2021. Descriptive research was carried out, through a cross-sectional survey, through the application of structured questionnaire in order to obtain information about the profile and consumption habits of meat. From this survey, it can be observed that the main consumers and/or buyers are women aged from 18 to 25 years, who receive up to a minimum wage, due to their financial conditions, they choose meat with the lowest prices, consuming more meat. of poultry, fish and cattle during the week.
