Abstract

Chromium is a mineral that only recently began to be supplemented to ruminants, and there are a lot of doubts about its real effects. In the 1990s, acknowledged the potential of chromium in nutrition of cattle and pigs. In the last five years, scientific studies have shown the importance of Cr to animals when there are emotional stress, physical and metabolic result of the intensification of production practices, which provides a greater susceptibility to diseases and metabolic disorders. Therefore, the aim with this literature review, discuss some recent scientific papers related to Chromium supplementation for ruminants as a means of reducing the impact of different forms of stress on performance of cattle.
