Abstract

This work was considered with the objectives of to describe the anatomo-histology of the stomach of Lithobates catesbeianus and to stand out functional aspects of the stomach of Lithobates catesbeianus. 20 (twenty) exemplary of frog had been used bull, Lithobates catesbeianus Shaw, 1802 (Amphibia, Anurous, Ranidae), with average alive weight of 85,0 ± 2,03 g. The units had been lodged in plastic boxes with 46 cm of length, 30 cm of width and 9 cm of depth, with 200 ml of water; the water was changed two times to the day. These units had been submitted the 48 hours of empty, for the cleanness of the digestive pipe and the contraction of its wall. The stomach of Lithobates catesbeianus is divided in regions of the body and piloric, made use in an only chamber. The stomach of the Lithobates catesbeianus is related with storage of the food, with the mixture of this food with the gastric juice, its digestion and the transference of the alimentary cake for the thin intestine.
