Abstract

A major problem faced by the pig is the post-weaning pig. The limited digestive capacity of these animals linked to the stress produced by the model of early weaning in swine production systems employed ultimately lead to production problems and consequent economic losses. Diet plays a fundamental role in maintaining animal health, as in situations of immune challenge. Thus, various nutritional strategies have been explored with the aim of solving such problems. Additives antimicrobial performance enhancers have required special attention when it comes to intestinal health of newborn piglets weaned. Acting as modulators in intestinal microflora, act to promote the retention of a beneficial flora in relation to an unwanted pathogenic flora. Amidst all these remedies, organic acids and nucleotides have shown good results and may even, with the possibility of further study, to face the antibiotics currently not allowed in animal feed as growth promoters. Therefore, this review is intended to address the correlated effect of supplementation of organic acids and nucleotides (Sacchacoromyces cerevisiae) in diets for weanling pigs, and modulate the enteric health, thereby developing a favorable bacterial communities in the gastrointestinal tract of newborn piglets weaned, providing greater efficiency of animal production, profitability and food security
