Diagnostic of the dairy cattle farm in the Fazenda Nova da Lagoa Grande settlement in Dourados, MS

The purpose of this study was to characterize the dairy farming developed in Fazenda Nova da Lagoa Grande in Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul. Data was obtained through interviews with 68.5% of dairy farmers in the settlement, that investigated productive, nutritional, reproductive and health aspects. Dairy production is the main economic activity developed and was present in 73.5% of farms. The milk productivity shows strong seasonal variation, being negatively affected by the reduction of food supply in the dry season. Although the dairy business is essential for local family farmers, it is weakened by lack of encouragement, guidance and technical support, which negatively affects the productivity levels of livestock.Downloads
