Abstract

The sheep industry is one of the old building activities as part of civilization for centuries providing wool, leather, milk and meat. This is a segment of the livestock that is occupying a great space in the Brazilian market and is favored among other factors, the possibility of creating different types of management, both intensive and extensive. The objective of this study was to evaluate the degree of infestation with gastrointestinal endoparasites in sheep subjected to two farming systems, intensive and extensive. Assessments were made on two properties with Santa Inês and Dorper breeds, one with management of intensive farming and the other containing 110 animals counting on extensive farming 137 sheep. We used the McMaster technique for the determination of eggs per gram of feces (EGF). There were two from each of the properties with an interval of 30 days between them. It was observed that the intensive farming of 29 samples of 14 animals were positive, 8 Santa Ines Dorper and 6, with a mild level of infestation found in the first evaluation. In the second collects the values of OPG decreased considerably by presenting only two animals of the Santa Inês and a Dorper positive. While on the property of extensive breeding, the first assessment, 25 of 10 sampled animals were positive. In the second evaluation, there was a reduction to only 3 positive. Extensive breeding had a higher average number of EGF intensive that although having a smaller number of positive animals.
