Abstract

In imaging we may come across artifacts, which refer to the display and images information that appear on the monitor and do not correspond to actual anatomical structures and can generate a wrong information. Furthermore, the artifacts are seen as a limitation to the use of the ultrasound machine. Often they are generated by incorrectly manipulating the device. Therefore, knowledge of the physical fundamentals related to the formation of the images becomes essential as well the understanding of how the artifacts are generated. Thus, the professionals involved with ultrasound may facilitate the interpretation of images, which results in accurate diagnosis and safe for their patients. The aim with this study was to review the main artifacts that can be generated during the scan in order to collaborate with interest professional in this area.
