Abstract

Abortion refers to the expulsion of a fetus dead or alive of the uterus between 42 days until approximately 280 days of gestation, when the latter is unable to carry out an independent life in an extra-uterine environment. Only 30% to 40% of fetuses aborted bovine animals present etiological diagnosis defined in virtue of multiple causes involved. The exact determination of the incidence of abortion in livestock is very important because rates of 1% to 2% is considered normal for cattle; of 3% represent a warning sign and greater than 3% feature a infectious or environmental problem that affects the herd. Among the various causes, stand out with their due, the casuistic bacterial, being the main brucellosis, leptospirosis and campylobacteriosis.
