Abstract

The constant evolution of the technology in veterinary medicine expresses the incessant search for improvement in the efficiency of the treatments, aiming to minimizing the patient suffering, reducing treatment time, exposure to drugs and consequently minimizing the total cost of treatment. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is an innovative therapy for small animals, which are kept inside a hermetically sealed chamber, with controlled supply of oxygen (100%), for previously established periods of time and subjected to pressure levels above the atmospheric pressure. The hyperbaric chamber exerts the possibility of accelerating the wound healing process. The longevity is one of the factors that can represent a hindrance to the perfect healing process in the species. The present case reports the case of a male canine with 14 years old with necrotizing lesion in the prepuce treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy and the total regression of the lesion in 10 hyperbaric sessions.
