Abstract

Ancylostoma caninum is a common parasite found mainly in the small intestine of dogs, has a cylindrical and elongated body, being classified as a nematode. When performing hematophagy it causes animal hookworm and also zoonosis popularly called the geographic bug, caused by cutaneous larva migrans, in humans. They cause major disorders mainly in young animals when contaminated by transmammary. It is worth mentioning the importance of studying and updating the biological cycle of this parasite, its morphological characteristics, hosts involved as well as the importance in veterinary medicine and public health.
