Abstract

Chlamydiosis is one of the most important zoonotic diseases of birds. The disease has a cosmopolitan character and is listed in several animal species, including humans. In Brazil, epidemiological data on chlamydiosis are scarce, mainly due to the difficulty of diagnosis or access to it. The purpose of this review is to address the fundamental aspects of avian chlamydiosis such as pathogenesis, clinical presentations and forms of diagnosis, in addition to emphasizing the importance of this disease in unique health.
