The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of irrigation in levels of condensed tannins in Tanzania grass (Panicum maximum Jacq. Cv. Tanzania-1) come from an irrigated and other non-irrigated area and observe the effect of these treatments on levels of tannins, correlating with results found by other authors to estimate the benefit / damage potential of correlation to ruminants. The study was conducted in areas with no fertilized, irrigated and not irrigated rotational grazing in Tanzania grass (Panicum maximum Jacq. Cv. Tanzania-1) in the City of Itaju do Colônia in Bahia, in the period April to June of 2009. Six samples of 2 kg of grass (total area parts), with interval of 15 days, were collected through the random launch of metal square measuring 0.5 x 0.5 m in each of the areas. The samples were dried in oven at 60 º C for 36 hours, crushed and sieved. In order to determine the content of proanthocyanidins (condensed tannins) the procedure known as Method of Vanillin was used. The reading in absorbance was held in a spectrophotometer Shimadzu UV mine in 1240 to 500 nm. The results revealed no significant difference at 5% of probability between the levels of condensed tannins found in irrigated and not irrigated Tanzania grass.
