Abstract

Canine breeding and population growth have increased and with them a number of related infectious diseases as well, especially in the postpartum period. Antimicrobials are generally a first choice of treatment in veterinary clinics, but indiscriminate use contributes to bacterial resistance. Alternatively, a use of prebiotic additives is increasingly common because of their effectiveness without increased local and systemic immune response. For example, the aim of this work is to evaluate the efficacy of prebiotic addition in response modulation. Parameters, bitches of bitches, pre-launched or not to the pre-biotic supplementation from the 30th day of gestation. Samples were collected up to the fourth month after delivery, considered from the first 48 hours, at intervals of 7.15 and 30 days. A discrete anemia was observed in the first few weeks, and without the white series in both groups. In vaginal cytology, there were variations of leukocytes and bacteria, greater presence of bacteria in the animals of the control group. It was possible to observe the development of immunological response by the production of antibodies against immunization in both groups, but with a greater intensity than the control group. Thus, we conclude that it is an addition of the prebiotic promotes positive modulation without the immune system of the non-postpartum bitches.
