Abstract

The success of the use of antibiotics is something established in the treatment and prophylaxis of diseases. However, its adverse effects are still neglected. The use without criterion and irrationality of antibiotics encourage the emergence of resistant bacteria, factor that is directly linked to the increase in the length of hospital stay of patients and cost of treatments. That way, it is important to emphasize and recommend educational methods that focus on instructing the best way to choose and use antibiotics in their different moments of applicability. The objective of this review is to reveal and updated terms and methods for the use of antibiotics in veterinary medicine, mainly in the context of pet surgery, projecting its importance in the context of public health.
