Abstract

Urolithiasis is one of the most common urinary tract diseases in dogs. Urolithiasis can be treated clinically or surgically. Cystostomy is a surgical procedure in which an incision is made in the bladder. The procedure can be done for a variety of reasons; the most common is to facilitate removal of bladder stones or urethral stones. Traditionally, a cystostomy is performed through a laparotomy. It is an invasive procedure that may be associated with complications such as wound infection, septic peritonitis, and the development of abdominal adhesions. The purpose of this case report was to describe laparoscopy-assisted surgery for the removal of uroliths. The removal of uroliths by assisted laparoscopy is a technique that brings several advantages in comparison to the laparotomy technique, such as: less postoperative pain, lower infection rate and faster return to activities.
