Abstract

The sexing of birds without sexual dimorphism, such as green-winged macaws, is important for planning conservation strategies. The aim of this study was to perform a bibliographic review of aspects related to the molecular sexing of green-winged macaws and the Wild Animal Screening Centers (CETAS). The present scientific review addressed the following aspects: (i) the order Psittaciformes; (ii) the formation of monogamous pairs in parrots; (iii) the species A. chloropterus; (iv) wild animal trafficking in Brazil; (v) CETAS; (vi) sexing in birds; and (vii) differential aspects of molecular sexing in birds. The present work gathers valuable information for research work with green-winged macaws.
