Abstract

Insulinoma is a tumor considered uncommon in small animal medicine. The neoplasm specifically affects the beta cells of the pancreatic islets of the endocrine portion of the pancreas, causing an exacerbated insulin secretion. The symptoms are manifested when blood glucose is below 45 mg/dl and the animal present neuroglycopenic signs such as depression, seizures and ataxia. Treatment can be surgical and/or drug, depending on the condition presented by the patient. This report aims to describe the case of a female canine, mixed breed, castrated, weighing 12.5 kg, 8 years old, diagnosed with insulinoma that obtained significant improvement with drug treatment without the need for surgical procedure.
