Abstract

The electrolytic disorders are common in the clinical routine of small animals, in which affects without distinction of species, age and sex. The diseases most frequently found as a base cause or result of other pathogenesis are metabolic acidosis and alkalosis, which bring together a variety of nonspecific clinical signs, such as diarrhea, emesis, apathy, dehydration, renal failure, anorexia and other clinical signs that accompany the diseases. These diseases are the result of changes in blood pH, causing the dysregulation of the body's homeostasis. The diagnosis must be quick, using physical examination, laboratory tests, and specific tests such as gasometry. Treatment of the disease should correct the underlying cause, fluidotherapy, and correction of secondary clinical signs.
