Abstract

Eye disorders arising from trauma such as proptosis of the eyeball often occur in dogs. It is known that such pathology has an emergency character, and an immediate approach after stabilization of the patient should be taken for a better prognosis. Proptosis are more common in dogs of brachycephalic breeds due to the differences found in the anatomical conformation of the orbit. This work aims at reporting the case of a canine of Pinscher breed that suffered attacks from other dogs it lives with, resulting in proptosis of the eyeball. The animal was treated and maintained a stable general clinical condition, with proptosis of the eyeball, with slight lesions in periocular structures. After emergency clinical care, patient stabilization and pre-surgical examinations, the animal underwent surgical procedures to replace the protruded globe using the canthotomy technique followed by provisional tarsorrhaphy. Two weeks after the surgical intervention, the stitches were removed. The eye was visual, intact, with normal ocular and eyelid reflexes and there was no strabismus.
