Abstract

The Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a disease characterized by gradual and irreversible loss of kidney functional mass, persisting for a period of months to years, leading to decreased glomerular filtration rate. Therefore, substances that should be excreted are retained in the body and others that should be reabsorbed are eliminated, progressively disrupting the entire homeostatic balance. CKD is the second main cause of death in cats. This report aimed to highlight the importance of clinical and laboratory measurements, taking into account the importance of CKD staging in cats in order to contribute to a better quality of life and increased survival by instituting the most appropriate treatment. The feline patient of this report shows an advanced stage of the clinic status. When treated at the clinic the animal was hospitalized, performed laboratory tests, received treatment e was staged. However, due to the advance of the alterations, the feline did not present stabilization of the clinical status for a long time, evolving to euthanasia. Thus, the importance of early diagnosis of CKD in feline patients is evident.
