Abstract

Uterine intussusception is a rare condition in small animals and an aggravating factor in dystocic births in large animals. It is believed to be related to the high estrogen in the postpartum period, at the end of the proestrus and in the estrus. The aim of the present study is to report a case of uterine intussusception in a female Shih-Tzu canine, addressing the diagnosis, the therapeutic conduct, as well as the discussion of the report. The symptoms of uterine intussusception are nonspecific, may present bloody and or purulent secretions, and it is not possible to diagnose with complementary exams, being possible only with exploratory laparotomy and its most effective treatment and without recurrences is done by ovariosalpingohisterectomy (OSH) and for those who interested in the reproductive life of their canine females can use 2% methylene blue to assess the viability of the tissue.
