Chronic lymphocytic leukemia in puppy: Case report

As a disease with cellular variability that affects both dogs and cats of various breeds, sizes and ages, despite being considered a rare disease, leukemia can be hidden and not present in routine clinical or hematological analyses, making it necessary to carry out repetitive complementary exams to identify neoplastic changes in hematopoietic cells, which is evidenced in that the physical examination and anamnesis of the reported case of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) pointed to other suspicions, proving that half of all cases of CLL can be asymptomatic and accidentally identified after evaluating the hematological profile. Thus, the diagnosis was given through information obtained via a review of the medical record, interview with the animal's owner and reiteration of the analysis methods to which the patient was submitted. This highlights the relevance of the association of anamnesis, physical examination, diagnostic hypothesis and auxiliary tests to identify the abnormality and define the right treatment, since leukemias are often misinterpreted and mistaken for other diseases, even with other types of neoplasia, thus being susceptible to inadequate therapeutic resources.
