Abstract

Glucose is an important source of energy for all living beings, without distinction. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the incremental glucose curve after dental prophylaxis, proving its efficiency. We used eight (8) animals healthy, Center for Equine APAE Colatina / ES. The animals of the experiment, with an average weight of 369kg and age of 10.3 years, had never undergone dental evaluation or dental prophylaxis. Blood samples were collected prior to prophylaxis with either as laboratory evaluation using the glucometer. After the procedure was done odontology blood collection to assess the influence of this parameter studied dental prophylaxis. With this study it can be concluded that the dental prophylaxis in horses increase the levels of blood glucose, when evaluated in the laboratory.
