Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Co60 on the posture of engorged females of tick R. (B) microplus in the pre-laying phase and on the hatchability of their eggs when submitted to doses from 0 to 400 Gy where it was found that ionizing radiation affected approximately 70% the egg laying weight of these females, that the egg hatching rate of the Witness was 68.2% higher than the lowest ionizing dose, the 5 Gy Treatment, that the higher the radiation dose, the lower the index. of hatching and treatments that received doses higher than 20 Gy, there were no hatching of the postures, thus establishing a milestone to study the application of sterile insect technique in this specimen.
