Abstract

The present report described the treatment of a male, adult, uncastrated and mixed breed canine presenting dermal lesions in the oronasal region were identified, originating from myiasis infestation. After the larvae removal, treatment and cure, reconstructive surgical intervention it was necessary to correct secondary lesion defects, using the flap technique from subdermal plexus; where success was achieved in the choice of all adopted therapies. Myiasis refers to the presence of fly larvae (order: Diptera) in the tissues and mucous membranes of animals and humans. In Brazil, in addition to the species: Dermatobia hominis popularly known as “blowfly”, a Cochliomya hominivorax species, commonly known as 'flyworm', has great health importance. Considered a mandatory notification by the international organization of epizooties (OIE). Among the main causes that favor the appearance of myiasis, we have: lack of hygiene in the environment, ear infections and exposed wounds.
