Abstract

The common potoo has distribution throughout the national territory, has nocturnal habits and is a species linked to several superstitions. Aiming to contribute to descriptions of their anatomy and comparative veterinary anatomy the craniometric aspects of 3 adult common potoo (Nyctibius griseus) adults donated to the Laboratory of Animal Anatomy of the UFPR- Sector Palotina, of which the skulls were prepared by thermochemical maceration technique. Some biometric measurements and maximum skull length were measured; maximum skull width; maximum skull height; length of the library; length and width of the nostril; length and width of foramen magnum; width of the jaw measured between the lateral processes of the half-jaw; distance between the lateral process of the mandible to the medial process of the jaw; and jaw length. The data obtained in this research elucidate, even if initially, the biometry and craniometry of Nyctibius griseus, thus serving as a subsidy for studies of comparative anatomy.
