Abstract

Canine atopic dermatitis is a pruritic allergic disease and is considered the main chronic dermatopathy among dogs. The care needs to take place during the entire lifespan of the animal and if not treated properly can cause suffering for the dog and even for the owner. Thus, it is extremely important that the veterinarian is aware of the available therapeutic alternatives, as well as the harm and benefits that the drug can provide. For this, a descriptive analytical study was carried out through indexed bibliographic research using digital access platforms such as Periódicos Capes, PubMed, Science Direct, Scielo, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde-MS e PubMed Central, preparing a literature review on triggering factors, the clinical signs and the main treatments of atopic dermatitis in dogs. As a result, it can be concluded that the treatment does not depend only on a drug and varies for each stage of the disease and for each animal, in addition it can also be influenced by the financial condition of the dog’s owner.
