Abstract

. Cats, having a very low stress threshold, show altered vital parameters during consultations. on the physiology of stress in which it addresses the main changes that can be found at the expense of this phenomenon. The present study evaluated the clinical parameters of heart rate, respiratory rate and body temperature of cats, under natural stress conditions, treated in an outpatient setting at the University Veterinary Clinic of the Federal University of Tocantins and correlated them with the variables room temperature, room humidity and time measurement of these clinical parameters (beginning or end of the consultation). There was no significant correlation between body temperature and room temperature, which may suggest a good adaptation of cats that live in the region of Araguaína at high temperatures. The respiratory rate showed mean values higher than those described in the literature (P < 0.05). When evaluating the results, it was concluded that higher respiratory rate values should be considered in healthy cats, under stress conditions during outpatient care. Regarding the assessment of the correlation between body temperature and room temperature, there was no significance.
