Abstract

Histiocytoma originates from a proliferative disorder of the histiocyte, it can present in three forms: cutaneous histiocytoma, benign fibrous histiocytoma, and malignant fibrous histiocytoma. Cutaneous histiocytoma is a benign mesenchymal neoformation and has spontaneous regression between 2 and 4 weeks, its diagnosis is made through immunohistochemistry; when there is no regression, removal is indicated and/or systemic SAIDS and topical DMSO; the prognosis is usually good. Benign fibrous histiocytoma is an uncommon dermatopathy in routine, its diagnosis is also given by immunohistochemistry but histopathology should be adopted for differentiation from malignant fibrous histiocytoma; the treatment may be surgical excision and administration of systemic SAIDS. Malignant fibrous histiocytoma is a rare neoformation, the diagnosis is clarified by immunohistochemistry and differentiation from benign histopathology is necessary the treatment is radical excisional surgery or even amputation of the affected limb the prognosis is reserved, as it is a neoplasm with a high rate of post-surgical recurrence.
