Abstract

Sialocele is the accumulation of saliva in the subcutaneous tissue, normally caused by trauma, lesions in the salivary ducts, obstructions, sialoliths or other unknown causes. It usually affects middle-aged dogs. The condition usually presents itself with an increase in volume at the site of the affected salivary gland; it is not painful and has rapid progression. This report aims to describe a case of sialocele of unknown cause in the mandibular gland of a Pinscher canine admitted and treated at the Veterinary Hospital of the University of Paraná (UFPR). The diagnosis is based on anamnesis, physical examination and complementary exams (aspiration cytology), and the instituted treatment was the mandibular gland removal. The treatment was effective and there was no recurrence.
