Abstract

Abstract: The aim of this study was to report a case of male pseudohermaphroditism in a French Bulldog that had testicles, vulva and poorly developed penis. Intersexuality or hermaphroditism is a concept that refers to anomalies present from birth in animals that have ambiguous sexual characteristics, that is, that do not clearly fit as male or female. These anomalies can be divided into two main categories: true hermaphrodites and pseudohermaphrodites. An individual is considered a male pseudohermaphrodite when he has female sexual characteristics, but has testicular gonads. Male pseudohermaphroditism is the most common form of intersexuality in domestic animals, characterized by the presence of the XY chromosome and testes in the abdominal cavity. In veterinary medicine, it is common to find cases of intersexuality in dogs, the most frequent form being pseudohermaphroditism, while true hermaphroditism is rare. Thus, it was concluded that the present report plays a significant role in contributing to the dissemination of a specific case of intersex, more precisely male pseudohermaphroditism.
