Abstract

Leishmaniasis is a zoonosis caused by a protozoan of the kingdom Protista of the genus Leishmania, it is a public health problem with an unfavorable prognosis for infected animals. The city of Unaí - MG in northwest Minas Gerais, is considered an endemic area of the disease, with great casuistry animals and humans. A dog with a complaint of rectal prolapse was examined and, after clinical investigation, the presence of seborrhea, lesions on the tip of the ear, skin peeling, exaggerated nail growth, perilabial ulcer was noted, and direct examination of the ulcers was performed, which demonstrated the presence of amastigote forms of Leishmania sp. and the animal was euthanized.
