Abstract

The use of horses to practice sports has shown significant growth in all regions of Brazil, and because of this, attention to the adoption of practices that guarantee the well-being of animals has gained importance in congresses, academic seminars, and in society in general. The set of decisions adopted based on the knowledge of welfare results in a rewarding return both in terms of longevity and the equine's athletic performance in a given modality. This article aims to address the relationship between animal welfare and equine performance, since the approach to the subject is often neglected.
