Abstract

Sporotrichosis is a subcutaneous, local or systemic mycosis, with a subacute or chronic evolution, caused by dimorphic fungi of the Sporothrix schenckii complex. It has a wide distribution worldwide, with greater occurrence in tropical and subtropical climatic conditions. It affects humans and a wide variety of domestic animals, especially felines. Infection occurs by inoculation of the fungus into the skin and subcutaneous tissue, in contact with contaminated soil and dry vegetables, by scratching or biting the infected animal. In the state of Bahia, cases have emerged in several cities, such as Camaçari, Lauro de Freitas, Mata de São João, Feira de Santana, and the capital of Bahia is attentive to the expansion of the disease. Due to the increase in the number of cases in Salvador and its metropolitan region and its zoonotic potential, the objective of this study was to report a case of Sporothrix infection in a male, neutered, mixed-breed, 4-year-old, 6.1 kg feline from the metropolitan region of Salvador, attended at the Amizade Pet clinic, where there was transmission to the tutor, but with the patient's total clinical improvement.
