Abstract

Considered as important ectoparasites, fleas, a popular name, are found in two species in dogs and cats: Ctenocephalides felis and Ctenocephalides canis. They are present all over the world. In the Brazil they cause health problems to domestic animals. Still, they are also resistant to common insecticides. This article addresses the morphology, biological cycle, control and veterinary importance of this insect.
