Abstract

Pain and lameness, in varying degrees, are found in postoperative femoral head and neck osteectomy (excisional arthroplasty) in dogs and are important for the leg’s return of function. These signals are markedly decreased by acetabular denervation. At the same time flaps have shown goods results for reducing bone crepitus and pain. The objective of this work is to describe the use of excisional arthorplasty associated with acetabular denervation of the flaps musculares combined with a biceps femoris flap for the treatment of six dogs with limb disuse due to chronic traumatic hip dislocation. After surgery, the animals urderwent clinical evaluation at 7, 14, 21 and 30 days postoperative and at the end of this period no signs of pain or lameness were observed. Considering the results obtained in this study, the use of this surgical therapy improves the time to return of normal function.
