Abstract

The Leishmaniasis are considered primarily as a zoonotic disease can affect humans when it comes into contact with the transmission cycle of the parasite, becoming a anthropozoonosis. Rio Grande do Norte / RN is a municipality in which the characteristics presented has great potential for the development of this zoonosis and because the number of affected dogs has grown, the objective of this study is to evaluate the positive and the main characteristics of the period between 2003 and 2008. We conducted a epidemiological survey in that time interval of cases of visceral leishmaniasis living in Rio Grande do Norte / RN. Data were obtained through the annual reports of the Information System and Diseases (SINAN).
