Abstract

There are several physical barriers against the entry of micro-organisms in the udder of ruminants: the teat esphincter, the teat canal coated with keratin with antibacterial properties and the Fürstenberg’s rosette. Anatomical factors associated with the teat shape and the anatomy of the teat canal are predisposing to mastitis. Addition, tissue bundles in circular path in ducts and sphincter tissue and folds in Furstenberg’s rosette real obstacles against pathogens causing mastitis.
