Abstract

Obstetrics is an area of veterinary medicine that studies the reproduction of the female, investigating the pregnancy and the postpartum period in their physiological and pathological aspects. Ultrasound is a safe method of diagnosis in the absence of deleterious effects on pregnant female and fetus. By ultrasound examination is possible to get early pregnancy diagnosis, monitoring of pregnant, fetal viability assessment and detection of possible abnormalities of pregnancy and fetus, among others. In this sense, this review will discuss the formation of the ultrasound image and their application in animal obstetrics examination.
