Abstract

Dog Sertanejo, also known as Boca-Black, originally from northeastern Brazil, makes up the historical and cultural heritage, being part of popular memory, especially cowboys and hunters older. The function of these animals to people living in the northeastern hinterland is quite diverse, are used as a hunting dog, guard crops (protection against swine), security of property in the care of the cattle on the vegetation of the Caatinga. This study aimed to provide initial information on the morphometric measurements of the Dog Sertanejo. The study was conducted in São João do Piauí. Were used in this study a total of 30 male dogs were adults, whereas as an adult above 02 years of life. We analyzed 18 variables assessed, 6 zoométricos indices. The variables and indices analyzed Dog Sertanejo demonstrated the capacity for greater agility in handling animals of zootechnical interest in native vegetation.
