Abstract

In this study we evaluated the morphology, topography and distribution of mechanical papillae on the dorsum of 30 Magellanic penguins languages, males, young people from the coast of Espirito Santo. The animals were autopsied and sectioned in the language had the most caudal portion. The keratinized epidermal papillae, whose function is to assist in the capture, containment and swallowing of food and non-gustatory functions. Morphologically, the languages have a conical appearance with papillae in five rows, arranged symmetrically and caudally. It was observed through a decrease in width of the tongue towards the root-apex, with a tapering of its total height. Were measured for root length at the apex of the tongue and the count of individual papillae located on the dorsal surface. The papillae found differed in quantity, distribution and size when compared to poultry.Ouvir
