Abstract

Palliative care aims at the act of caring, making animals and the family members who are accompanying them. This literature review addresses palliative care in cancer patients in veterinary medicine, bringing data for pain control and euthanasia impacts on family members and professionals involved with patients. The results show that the majority of patients in palliative care are carriers of oncological diseases, being the main causes of euthanasia. It emphasizes the suffering of tutors and the team of veterinarians. It is concluded that for palliative care in veterinary medicine, it is necessary to have a team that takes care of the patient, tutors and veterinarians to face the adversities brought by the profession.
