Abstract

Sporotrichosis is a fungal infection that may affect humans and animals, especially felines. The main fungus responsible for the infection is the Sporothrix schenckii, which may be found in the soil and organic matter. Transmission in hu-mans occurs through scratch or bite from infected cats, and the main symptom is re-lated to cutaneous lesions. Number of cases has been increasing in the city of São Paulo, becoming a zoonosis of compulsory notification in 2020. The present study aimed to verify the knowledge of tutor of cats regarding the disease which resulted in the identification of a majority of correct answers regarding the definition of zo-onosis, as well as the etiologic agent of sporotrichosis. Still, these tutors could not identify the mode of transmission and symptomatology of the disease, putting into evidence the need of information and educational actions to help identifying and controlling the cases of sporotrichosis.
