Abstract

This paper reports the reproductive biotech Artificial Insemination (IA) held a bitch Dogo Argentino breed, a year and a half old, nulliparous, resident in the city of Teresina, PI, using chilled semen from a dog of the same breed, residing in Recife , PE. The dog semen was collected by digital manipulation, diluted in Tris-yolk, chilled to 4°C, identified, stored in isothermal box and sent by air transport for the city of Teresina. The IA was performed intravaginally, using chilled semen for 24 hours of collection as a single dose, according to the results of vaginal cytology and hormonal dosage bitch. Forty days after IA abdominal ultrasonography was carried out confirming pregnancy. It concludes that the use of IA with chilled semen is a viable alternative that allows the fertilization of dogs living in geographically distant areas.
