Abstract

Transmissible venereal tumor (TVT) is a disease that is mainly related to the external genital tract of males and females, but is found in extragenital form in the respiratory tract and subcutaneous tissue. Its transmission occurs when tumor and / or neoplastic cells are implanted mechanically, through natural mounts and also by excessive licking of the genital area, which can cause lesions in the nose, mouth, oral cavity and even in the skin. It is one of the tumors of higher incidence in the canine species, presenting a greater predominance in young, wandering, and sexually active animals. In the treatment of CVT, surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy are recommended. The prognosis for total tumor remission is good unless metastatic involvement of the Central Nervous System (CNS) or eyes is present.
