Abstract

Cats are often subject to trauma due to behavioral habits; however, cases involving traumas involving the tongue are rare, probably due to the intraoral position of such organ. Due to this rarity, we describe the case of a feline attended at the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Piauí with oral trauma, which caused dental loss and lingual laceration wound. Simple suture was made to approximate the lingual borders. The animal presented good recovery and on the first postoperative day showed an appetite to ingest pasturage foods. The lingual wound of this cat quickly reepithelialized, a condition provided by the good vascularization of the oral cavity.
