Abstract

Thiocolchicoside is a sulfurous derivative of a natural colchicine glycoside, that has been used as a myorelaxant because its property of being less sedative than other central acting muscle relaxants. This medication is commonly used in the treatment of muscle contractures, symptomatic spasms, rheumatic disorders and neurological disorders. The study took place at the Hospital of Veterinary Clinic of the University of Pelotas with 16 healthy dogs. Hematological, biochemical and ultrasound exameswere performed before and after each intramuscular application of thiocolchicoside. As a result of this study, it was verified that thiocolchicoside at a dose of 0.06 mg / kg in dogs did not cause hematological alteration, serum biochemistry, ultrasonography and relevant adverse effects in the study animals, showing no toxicity.
